Jeremiah and Kamil were both excellent to interact with. They took care of my requests, asking appropriate questions to ensure we were on the same page, and dealt with everything quickly and very professionally.

Former employee- the beginning working relationships appears to be promising but what I learned was that their vendors were not prepared to provide onboarding credentials and training. Not to mention the company is very limited on company communication. It literally took 2-4 weeks for me to receive proper training and credentials. Not to mention the two vendors I was assigned being able to maintain employability of contract for a year. In the 2.5 years I was there I’ve been laid off twice and upon my 3rd assignment I had to take a pay cut. I decided to part ways and upon my existing they decided to switch my final check to paper instead of an electronic deposit without telling me. When I called / email the company to learn what had happen; I had to repeat my calls with no response back from them. When I finally spoke with HR I was I informed they need to ensure the return of company equipment. I was totally surprise, because no communication was conveyed to me, that they holding my payCheck. I’ve always been a loyal employee even with the 2 lay-offs, and decrease in pay. I never thought they would be ornery and be spiteful towards the end when they had me waiting on them for my return label to return the company equipment. I sent it back soon as I got the label, yet I am still waiting on my final paycheck which they have fail to confirm is in the mail. Not a bad company to work for, but strongly ask the top questions surrounded around sustainability, pay increases and employment, annual reviews, their vendors, process, and training, and the length of their vendors contracts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do IT services companies typically do?

IT companies help organizations plan, build, operate, and secure technologies to enhance business agility, mitigate risk, and ensure system reliability.

Core IT services include:

  • Technology strategy and consulting: Guiding businesses on how to achieve their technological goals and maximize their investments through IT assessments, roadmap and architecture, tool and vendor selection, and CIO/CTO support.
  • Custom software development and digital product development: Creating a digital solution tailored to a business's unique needs, processes, workflow, and infrastructure.
  • Infrastructure and network monitoring services: Ensuring reliable connectivity and network performance through LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, and SD-WAN management.
  • DevOps and platform engineering: Configuring internal developer platforms (IDPs), optimizing CI/CD pipelines, and providing Kubernetes and containerization management.
  • Cloud services: Developing a cloud solutions strategy, migrating a business's systems and data to a cloud platform, designing the architecture, and managing cloud operations.
  • Cybersecurity: Defending a company's digital assets against threats and attacks through security assessments, identity and access controls, monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response, and regulatory compliance support.
  • IT help desk: Providing incident and request management, technical troubleshooting, and SLA-based support to employees and customers.
  • Business continuity: Providing data backup, disaster recovery planning, and restore testing to help businesses meet defined downtime and data-loss targets.
  • Managed IT services: Offering ongoing tech support through system monitoring, patching, device management, and software/vendor management.

Many IT services also cover data/business intelligence (BI) and analytics, employee training, change management, and AI enablement.

What industries do IT companies commonly serve?

IT companies serve most industries, tailoring their services to the needs, security requirements, and mission-critical systems of each organization. According to industry research, the following are the major verticals investing in IT services:

  • IT and telecom: Offering engineering support, cloud-native builds, site reliability engineering, and legacy modernization.
  • Finance: Building banking apps, fraud and risk analytics, payment programs, blockchain solutions, and ensuring strong cybersecurity and data governance across digital operations.
  • Healthcare: Creating compliant and secure patient portals, electronic health record (EHR) systems, telehealth solutions, and advanced medical devices and diagnostic tools.
  • Government: Engineering public-facing apps and websites, and providing digital transformation and data management services to improve agency efficiency and community service.
  • Retail: Tailoring and optimizing eCommerce platforms, online marketplaces, inventory management solutions, point of sale (POS) systems, and other commerce solutions to improve customer experiences, sales, and internal efficiency.
  • Manufacturing: Devising industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions, material requirements planning software, and real-time performance dashboards to optimize resource utilization and the manufacturing process.

What tech stacks do they use?

IT services providers are proficient in multiple tech stacks. However, the right stack will depend on your existing systems, security requirements, time-to-market goals, and team capabilities to support the product in the long-term. Common tech stacks include:

  • JavaScript web stacks (MEAN/MERN stacks): Popular for modern web applications and SaaS products, especially when you want a single language across the back end and front end.
  • .NET (ASP.NET and C#): A Microsoft-based developer ecosystem used for cross-platform application development, making it ideal for Microsoft-heavy enterprise applications, APIs, internal tools, and Azure-based systems.
  • Python-Django (PyCharm, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL, Apache): Commonly used for web apps, data-heavy products, analytics, and machine learning programs.
  • LAMP/PHP stack: One of the first open-source software, providing time-tested reliability to many digital solutions. This is often used for content sites, CMS-driven experiences, and many eCommerce implementations.

How long do IT projects take?

A small, well-scoped digital product can take 3-12 months to build. On the other hand, complex, integration-heavy software may require over a year. Below is an approximate timeline for each phase of the software development lifecycle:

  • Discovery and planning (2-6 weeks): Defining the project goals, success metrics, scope and constraints, risks, and delivery plan.
  • Design and architecture (2-5 weeks): Establishing UX flows, system design, integration approach, and security requirements. It may also include proof of concepts (PoCs) for high-risk segments.
  • Build in iterations (8-52+ weeks): Building the product incrementally with regular demos or releases. It often involves server-side logic, database management, system integration, and back-end and front-end work.
  • Quality assurance and testing (3-6+ weeks): Aims to uncover and resolve issues, bugs, and defects in the system before launching. This typically includes functional, usability, regression, and performance testing and typically occurs throughout the development process rather than as a separate phase.
  • Launch (1-3 weeks): Ensuring product readiness through final system checks, providing change management, training, rollout plan, and go-live.
  • Post-launch support (2-6 weeks): Refining the product after launch, including fixing bugs and refining UI/UX design.

The timeline of your IT project will be dictated by your deployment frequency, system complexity, data migration readiness, security and compliance approvals, and feedback cycle.
