Veggie Weekend Clean App Design

Vegetarians are familiar with the struggle of finding good recipes that meet their dietary restrictions. Many food sites and apps are tailored to the meat-eaters among us, and those that do include vegetarian options often focus on them only as an afterthought. Enter Veggie Weekend, the recipe app designed specifically for vegetarians, be they full-time, part-time, or merely veggie-curious.

From the home screen, users are presented with a visually-enticing array of recipe options, represented by a gridded display of recipe photos. Imagery is high-quality and appealing. Click any of the options and the recipe is populated.

The Veggie Weekend page has a unique and interactive design. Pulling down on the screen will generate an overlay detailing the recipe’s nutrition facts. Step-by-step instructions are listed below the hero image, while the ingredients list can be pulled in from the side of the screen and hidden again once the user has the info he needs. A set of icons gives user key information at a glance, including cook time, whether the recipe is appropriate for freezing, and indication of whether it’s gluten-free and/or vegan. There’s also a virtual egg timer, so the user can time their recipe right from the app.

Of course the app also features convenient search functionality and the ability to favorite a recipe and access it later. These options are available from the app’s main navigation -- a tabbed icon menu that runs along the bottom of the screen.

Veggie Weekend offers users a streamlined and enjoyable cooking experience, and its unique “vegetarian-only” angle gives it a unique differentiation factor in the recipe app market.
