Drygate Beer
The best packaging design combines multiple physical elements that merge to create a layered spectacle of visual abundance. Here are viewing an amazing example of limited edition package design for the Drygate Brewing Company’s first birthday.
Created by a collaboration between UK-based design agency D8 and the graduates of the prestigious Glasgow School of Art comes a fearless visual story of a brewing process that aims to achieve the exceptional.
The packaging is hand wrapped. The best and most rare items in the world are usually made by hand with a custom touch from masterful craftsmen. Take the fabled Scottie Cameron Putter, or the hand stitched clothing of Givenchy, or perhaps the legendary Kobe Beef. When hours upon hours of hard work pour into a product, people will pay for the end result and view it with a sacred possession to be cherished.
The hand wrapping gives off this element of mastery. The original meaning of Drygate is a ‘priest’s path.’ The zigzag mark beneath the Drygate logo highlights this quest for perfection.
Each brew flavor has a unique illustrated graphic sleeve that harbors the brewing glory inside the bottle. The zig zag emblem is seen with white and purple, as if painted on by an abstract artist. Red and blue checkered squares fade into the background and combine with a yellow crossed label that makes the image pop out of the bottle in the most gorgeous of ways.
The middle bottle contains a wonderful white background with a blue striped inner circle and red highlight. The bottle on the right features a jungle theme with green vines in a sea of blue and yellow.
A closer view shows the wonderful hand-tied tag that accompanies the limited-edition bottle sleeve. On the inside of the tag is information on the brew and nutrition facts.
Viewed even closer, one can see the care and effort to hand tie each of these bottles. It is this special kind of effort and care that translates directly to the consumer when the hold the product in their hands. They then feel the highest level of respectability for the brand. They feel that they are holding something of high value.
The unified theme of each bottle matches the hand tied label with the sleeve. The best packaging designs contain a unified and cohesive theme that combine for a visual singularity of beauty.
The orange and white design features abstract imagery and matches the aesthetic of the other bottles. Again, we have a singular package that makes all the bottles collectible, especially when purchased together.
D8 and the graduates of the Glasgow School of Art created a series of illustrations that emulate the principles of best packaging design through a unifying and cohesive theme, outstanding original illustration and hand-wrapped individually signed packaging.
When these elements combine, the result is a product that the customer feels closer to. They feel the craftsmanship and the care and the effort that went into the product. They admire the aesthetic and will seek to collect all bottles for display or gifting.
Add the individual hand-wrapped touch for a mere moment, and gain a customer for eternity. Check out our article on best beef jerky packaging designs.
