Subtlety has no place here. Riot Days is a book about rebellion, imprisonment, and resistance, and the cover makes sure you know it before you even pick it up. A bright pink riot mask (a symbol instantly recognizable from Pussy Riot’s protests) sits at the forefront, its eye and mouth holes cut through to reveal the title beneath.

The effect is unsettling yet magnetic, forcing you to engage with the imagery before you even read the words. The high-contrast color palette (yellow, black, and pink) feels loud, urgent, and impossible to ignore.

It carries the energy of protest posters, political graffiti, and underground zines: design languages rooted in activism. The bold, black typography is partially obscured by the mask, almost as if it’s being censored, reinforcing the book’s themes of state oppression and resistance.

This book cover is more than just an aesthetic choice — it’s a statement. The balance of playfulness and menace, of neon vibrancy against stark black text, mirrors the emotional intensity of the book itself. It doesn’t ask for attention; it seizes it.
