- Project Brief: Create a portfolio website that presents Huichuan Wang’s artistic practice through minimalist navigation, expressive typography, and a distinctive multilingual visual identity.
A portfolio website really has one job: prove the person can build the thing, not just talk about it. Huichuan Wang's site settles that right away in the hero, where a living generative creature, a mesh of nodes and lines drawn on the fly in code, moves before you have read a single word.
What is clever is how light everything around it stays. That busy interactive canvas sits on top of a still, blurred background and plain terminal-style text, so the page keeps its weight down and loads fast even though motion is the first thing you notice.
Navigation is stripped right back too. There is basically just "WORKS / INFO" and a language toggle, so you are never more than a click from the actual work, with none of the nested menus most portfolios bury you in.
And the personality all lives in the type. Monospace lines, little ASCII arrows, English and Chinese characters mixed together, it all makes the page feel hand-coded and alive, like you are looking at the artist's own interface rather than some template she poured her name into.
