Our experience with Altruic Advisors has been excellent! We have had contracts with them for several years, and have always been pleased with the guidance and advice provided. We are a very small non-profit with small staff, so having this expertise to keep us on track is value beyond measure. Thank you to all the staff at Altruic Advisors!

White Glove Service: A clean pair of white gloves portrays the cleanliness of the wearer and the household. They gave rise to the related "white glove test," which involves running one's finger across a surface without besmirching the perfectly white glove.
Today, white-glove service provides an exceptional experience. Altruic exceeds clients’ expectations, prioritizes their needs, personalizes their experience, genuinely cares about their happiness and satisfaction, and resolves problems before they arise. I recommend them without reservation.

As an accounting firm I would give them 1 star. I recently discovered a litany of deductions they failed to consider. You will be given an EA, which is just a glorified tax preparer. They will know nothing and be slow to reply. You might as well get your taxes done by H&R block or a proper independent CPA. If these folks do your taxes, get prepared for a larger tax bill. I strongly advise against it.

Dreamscape Hero

My wife and I used this firm to prepare our taxes one year on a family recommendation and they were a total joke. We had to send back our taxes twice because they couldn't even get our names right the first time, and the second time they didn't get our Social Security Numbers right. Given the fact that we sent them our previous two years of returns with our names and SSNs correctly printed all over the returns, it's astounding that such basic errors happened. Who knows what other errors were on that year's returns... On top of that they charged $500 for a very basic return and basically required us to fill out all the boxes on our forms instead of taking all the forms and preparing the taxes. We had to spoon feed them everything and basically did our taxes ourselves. Suffice it to say we never used them again after that.

EIDE BAILLY CHARGED ME $1,325.00 FOR A STANDARD TAX RETURN!!!
I had been using Eide Bailly since I graduated college a few years ago. David Frank was always the guy I dealt with, and it was always expensive, and never impressive. I would have to pay about $600 if I recall for a standard tax return in the past. PLUS I would call with what seemed like a simple question during the year and he would "need to check". After hours passed he would call back with an answer and a bill would sometimes follow for something like $100.
In April 2012 David Frank did my taxes as usual, but when the bill came it was for $1,325.00 !!!!!! I was shocked, he said it was because I had got married in 2012 and he "HAD TO CALL" ANOTHER GUY AT ANOTHER EIDE BAILLY IN MINNEAPOLIS, MN TO BE SURE THAT DID NOT REQUIRE SPECIAL CONSIDERATION ON THE TAX RETURN... AND HE BILLED FOR HOURS OF TALK TIME *TIMES* 2 PEOPLE. And the answer was **NO THIS DOES NOT AFFECT THE TAX RETURN!!** IT WAS A WASTED CALL!! And they billed my and my new wife $1,325.00!! Do you know how much that is to a couple newly weds!!!
I asked David if he felt that was fair, and he said YES!!!

Frequently Asked Questions About Accounting Firms in Denver
Can Denver-based accounting firms help with IRS or State tax issues?
Absolutely. Denver-based accounting firms, specifically those with CPAs (Certified Public Accountants), Enrolled Agents (EAs), or Tax Attorneys, are well-equipped to handle both federal (IRS) and Colorado state tax issues.
In fact, many firms in the Mile High City specialize specifically in "Tax Resolution," which is the formal term for fixing tax problems. Local firms can be your legal representative, so you don't have to speak to tax agents yourself.
Their common services include:
Audit representation: If the IRS or the Colorado Department of Revenue (CDOR) flags your return, a firm can manage the audit, defend your deductions, and handle all correspondence.
Back taxes & unfiled returns: They help reconstruct records for missing years and file past-due returns to bring you into "compliance."
Debt settlement (offer in compromise): They can negotiate with the IRS to settle your debt for less than what you owe if you can prove financial hardship.
Payment plans: Negotiating "Installment Agreements" that fit your monthly budget.
Penalty abatement: Requesting the removal of late-filing or late-payment penalties due to "reasonable cause" (like medical issues or natural disasters).
Collections relief: Stopping or reversing wage garnishments, bank levies, and tax liens.
Do accounting firms in Denver handle out-of-state returns?
Yes, Denver-based accounting firms, particularly those with CPAs or Enrolled Agents (EAs), regularly handle out-of-state tax returns.
Thanks to a concept called CPA Mobility, most licensed accountants can provide tax services for clients and income sources in almost every other state without needing a separate license for each one.
However, you should still ask two specific questions during your initial call:
Do you have experience with [State] specifically? Some states (like California, New York, and Oregon) have notoriously aggressive and complex tax departments. You want an accountant who is familiar with their specific quirks.
Do you use cloud-based portals for document sharing? Since you're dealing with multiple state forms, digital organization is key. Most modern Denver firms use secure portals to make this seamless.
Do accounting firms in Denver work with specific software?
QuickBooks Online and Xero are the most common software that accountants in Denver use for small-to-midsized businesses. Local firms often prefer these cloud-based platforms because they allow for real-time collaboration, where both you and your Denver accountant can view live financial data simultaneously.
For larger or more complex Denver-based enterprises, such as those in the tech or manufacturing sectors, firms often scale up to Sage Intacct or Oracle NetSuite to manage multi-entity reporting and complex inventory.
Beyond general bookkeeping, Denver firms use specialized professional-grade tax software like CCH Axcess, Thomson Reuters UltraTax CS, or Intuit Lacerte to handle federal and Colorado state filings.
In 2026, many local practices have also integrated "practice management" portals like TaxDome or Karbon. These are secure online hubs where you upload documents, sign e-file forms, and message your CPA in one place. This setup is common in Denver’s RiNo and LoDo areas, where accounting firms work with startups and remote teams.
How do Denver accounting companies charge for services?
Denver accounting companies charge between $130 to $170 per hour for standard services like bookkeeping oversight, financial statements, tax planning, and business tax filing. More complex work pushes rates higher.
Bookkeeping is cheaper than CPA work. Rates are often $47 to $54 per hour and cover tasks like expense tracking, reconciliations, payroll processing, and basic reports. Tax filing and advisory work are not included.
Costs rise with business size, industry-specific rules, complex tax situations, multi-state filings, and advisory or strategic work beyond routine accounting.
What common accounting mistakes businesses in Denver make?
In addition to common errors such as mixing personal and business funds, Denver businesses face specific pitfalls related to Colorado's unique tax landscape.
Common Denver-specific mistakes:
Mismanaging the Retail Delivery Fee (RDF): Many Denver retailers fail to properly track or remit the Colorado Retail Delivery Fee (currently $0.28 per delivery as of early 2026). Businesses often forget this fee applies to any delivery by motor vehicle, even if handled by a third party.
Sales tax "Sourcing" errors: Colorado uses Destination Sourcing, meaning you must collect sales tax based on where the customer receives the product, not your business location. Miscalculating these rates across Denver's many overlapping "Special Districts" (like RTD or Scientific and Cultural Facilities Districts) is a frequent audit trigger.
Ignoring "Home rule" city rules: Denver is a "Home Rule" city, meaning it collects its own local sales tax independent of the state. Businesses often mistakenly remit everything to the state and overlook the separate filing required directly for the City and County of Denver.
S-Corp salary issues: Local S-Corp owners often pay themselves a salary that is too low to avoid payroll taxes. The IRS actively audits Denver-area small businesses for "Reasonable Compensation" to ensure owners aren't taking 100% of profits as tax-free distributions.
