Five Jars Reviews & Testimonials
Jake Mackay
Founder at Print Shoppe
4.7★
Software Development Review from Jake Mackay
For quite a long time we took orders by e-mail or personally from customers. It took a lot of time, as we either made layouts by hand or printed them according to the vague requirements of clients. All these difficulties have pushed us to take a step towards the digital transformation of our business. The team of Five Jars has developed a frontend and backend for our web tool to create print layouts. The team is not afraid to take on difficult tasks!
Anthony North
Owner at E-learning platform

Responsive Review from Anthony North
I was looking for companies that had experience with large educational platforms. There are some really big players in the eLearning market in Five Jars' portfolio, so I trusted their development experience. After all our platform has become more attractive to users. Over the past year, we have noticed a significant increase in daily visits, so much so that we even had to change hosting. Five Jars helped us with that too!

Small Business Review from Colin Knox
I'm satisfied with the MVP we've done with the Five Jars team. I am currently looking for an investor for this project. I love working with professionals when I don't have to dive into a whole area that I don't know. Working with the Five Jars was a real partnership where the other side fulfilled their obligations without my constant checks.

Web Development Review from jack ehrhardt
They meet our needs with a quick response. They're willing to work with us and handle issues. The quality of work is decent. Our IT director mentioned that Maxiom Technology is competitively priced compared to other vendors. The team gives a reasonable deadline at the outset of projects and usually sticks to it. We communicate via email and phone. Their response time and communication are impressive. Be honest with what you're looking for. Maxiom will be responsive and willing to investigate your needs. The team may offer solutions you might not have thought about before.

Maxiom Technology has been working with Truth Quotient LLC on program managment in quantifying the scope of work of the Maxiom Technology developer. The Maxiom Technology developer has been working with us every day over the last 8 months or so on developing a custom software tool. They have delivered the product to us and we are in sales at this point. We are continuing to refine and develop the software daily.
Laura Cole
Manager of Civic Innovation at City of Allentown

Web Development Review from Laura Cole
Maxiom Technology has been designing and building a new website from scratch. We started the project with a robust discovery phase, where the team queried us about our design and branding goals for the site. They provided us with a site map of our existing website, which we used to inform the new structure. The team also pushed us to determine what we wanted out of a content refresh, so I ran several internal discussions with our team and relayed feedback to Maxiom Technology.
We had our own brand standards, but we didn't have any specific requests for the design. We just wanted Maxiom Technology to standardize each department page and develop template themes for other pages. The team worked iteratively to design templates for each page using Figma. They also designed different navigation options for mobile and desktop. We wanted to enable user acceptance testing (UAT), so they built clickable, high-fidelity prototypes. They also updated our websites backend to facilitate communication with our servers.
Now, they;re rebuilding our content editor to help us update the site while adhering to our brand. Soon, they'll start developing the website using DotNetNuke (DNN), an open-source platform.

I highly recommend working with Epion! During our initial call, Curt and his team provided fantastic recommendations for my website given my specific needs and desires despite not having any commitment to work together. Epion treats you like a true partner throughout the process as they want to see you grow and succeed. I'm extremely pleased with how my website turned out and it would not have been possible without the Epion team!

Wow. I had such an amazing exploratory and creative experience. I felt the intention in each step that Epion provided, which ultimately led to me having a beautiful website with content, business cards, and a logo that is reflective of my company brand at this stage of development. Before I officially began working with Epion, I was provided genuine advice which encouraged me to explore and develop more before acquiring their services. This stood out to me because we live in a world that is quicker to take your money than to say "No," you're not ready yet. I look forward to working with Epion on more projects in the future (in addition to being my top referral source for friends and other business owners/entrepreneurs).

I came to Epion because it was recommended by a friend. This is without a doubt the best option for my needs and timeline. I had a quick conversation with their staff and they quickly understood my situation and what I needed for my website. They even included some suggestions that helped bring my website together and they message that I wanted my customer to receive after visiting my website. I will continue to use Epion in the near future!

We turned to Advante, to complement and add capacity to the marketing team already in place, for one of the services featured on their website: trackable actions that help you make marketing budget decisions with confidence.
In short, Advante delivered. Their team did an outstanding job supporting our marketing team, who had a solid grasp of our website but hadn’t yet fully integrated it with our CRM—or fully leveraged CTA forms, data, and automation.
We’d been using HubSpot for three years, and I had a feeling we were missing opportunities. Advante proved that hunch right. They connected the dots, righted the ship, and exceeded our expectations. Organized, skilled, dedicated, and professional—we highly recommend.

If you desire honest and fair treatment then you should certainly consider Advante BCS. Thank you to their team.

I am so very happy with Advante BCS! They do amazing work! I absolutely love my website and how user friendly it is. I get many compliments on this. The staff respond to my questions and/or needs the same day I email them. The marketing tools they use for my business have been a huge success! My business has grown so much and I credit a good amount of that success to Advante BCS. I couldn’t be happier!
I started with Advante BCS when I first started my company and was thrilled with the original website they built. There was not anything I did not like about working with this.Thenjoined a networking group and was encouraged to use the business services provided within the group.
Foolishly, I made the switch to another company who was part of my networking group and they dropped the ball on many important items. I came back to Advante and they cleaned things up very, very quickly. My business is moving forward once again! I will never depart from this wonderful company again! I highly recommend this company to anyone who is serious about growing their business!

They bring a solid process-driven approach to web dev & design. They make the site review/revision/approval process easier and more efficient than previous web design agencies I've worked with. They listen and take feedback with grace while also bringing fresh ideas to the conversation to help in problem-solving. They are a delightful team to work with, and I highly recommend them!

Xponent21 helped lead our organization through both a rebrand and website redesign. They were efficient, flexible with timelines, and willing to prioritize certain items according to our needs. Their processes are very collaborative, which ensures that the client is never in the dark about their project. Most importantly, Xponent21 had experience doing similar projects for other nonprofit organizations, which was aided in their ability to align with our mission.
Overall, a flexible and accommodating client experience that delivered the results we were hoping for.

I have worked with Liz Harr and team for many years and they are simply the best. Where to begin? They performed a strategic analysis, and concluded that our website desperately needed an overhaul. From there, they led the website upgrade - and mentored us on SEO tactics, and we watched our SEO performance improve exponentially, for month after month for years (as crazy as that sounds). They continue to walk with us to find the "next big thing" that can help us to promote our consulting and training business. In addition, they are great and friendly people - who are a joy to work with - and I'm always looking forward to the next conversation. They have truly contributed to our success in a meaningful way, and I look forward to many years of working with them in the future.

The Hinge team is the real deal - as a client in their Visible Expert program and as a professional who has been piecing together marketing techniques for years, the Hinge team helped me see the forest for the trees. Working with them has helped me understand the interconnectivity of marketing efforts and the benefits and pathways for developing synergies across those efforts. Highly recommend if you are building a professional services firm.

Our company, The AIM Institute, had worked with three different marketing agencies before we found Hinge... and we won't be working with another! For 8 years now, Hinge has met every need we've had. We love the fact that they focus on B2B service providers (such as our training firm) AND do extensive research. For us though, the biggest difference between Hinge and the rest is that they don't just conduct marketing campaigns. Rather they come alongside like a member of our leadership team to help us develop strong business growth strategies. We HIGHLY recommend them!

7 Frequently Asked Questions About Website Development Services in Virginia
How much does a web development company in Virginia charge?
A web development company in Virginia typically charges $12,000 to $150,000, depending on the website’s size, features, customization, and complexity. These prices generally follow broader U.S. web development rates, since final costs depend more on project scope than location alone.
Simple business website: $12,000–$30,000
Custom business website: $30,000–$75,000
Complex website or eCommerce platform: $75,000–$150,000+
Simple sites usually include standard pages, responsive design, and basic CMS setup. Custom and complex builds cost more because they require stronger UX/UI design, backend development, integrations, payment systems, databases, or advanced security.
Businesses should also budget for hosting, SSL certificates, maintenance, SEO, content, and future updates.
How long does it take for a website development company in Virginia to build a site?
A standard business website typically takes 8 to 16 weeks from kickoff to launch, and complex or eCommerce builds take 4 to 6 months or longer.
The timeline depends on a handful of factors:
Scope: Page count, custom features, and integrations each add build time.
Content readiness: Waiting on copy, images, and approvals is the most common cause of delay.
Feedback speed: Slow review cycles on the client side stretch even a simple project.
Third-party dependencies: Payment gateways, CRMs, and APIs add coordination time.
A realistic timeline built around these variables is more reliable than any single best-case promise, and a seasoned web development company Virginia businesses hire will set that expectation early.
Should you hire a Virginia web development agency for a custom build or use a template?
Choose a custom build when the site must support specific workflows, integrations, or growth plans, and use a template when the budget is tight, and the requirements are standard.
A template gets a small business online quickly and cheaply, but it limits flexibility as needs grow. A custom build costs more upfront and takes longer, yet it scales cleanly and avoids the rework of outgrowing a rigid platform within a year.
The table below compares the two approaches across the factors that most affect the decision:
Factor
Template
Custom build
Upfront cost
Lower, often under $5,000
Higher, typically $12,000+
Time to launch
Days to a few weeks

What should be included in a contract with a web development company in Virginia?
A web development contract should define scope, timeline, payment schedule, ownership, and post-launch terms in writing before any work begins.
At minimum, the agreement needs to spell out:
Detailed scope of work: Exact deliverables, page count, and features, with a defined change-request process.
Payment schedule: Milestone-based payments tied to completed stages rather than a single lump sum.
Intellectual property transfer: Clear statement that the client owns the code and design on final payment.
Timeline and milestones: Target dates with a shared understanding of what causes delays.
Post-launch support: What is covered after launch, for how long, and at what cost.
A contract missing any of these leaves room for disputes that are far cheaper to prevent than to resolve, which is why a reputable web development company Virginia clients trust will insist on documenting them.
Do website development services in Virginia typically include hosting and maintenance?
Hosting and maintenance are sometimes bundled and sometimes billed separately, so a buyer should confirm the arrangement before signing.
Many firms offer a monthly care plan covering hosting, security updates, backups, and minor content changes, while others hand the finished site over and leave hosting to the client.
Ongoing annual operational assets like premium security layers and managed environments typically range from $100 to over $1,000+ per year.
How do you know if a web development agency in Virginia has relevant industry experience?
Look for case studies, live sites, and references in the same industry as the project, since sector-specific experience shortens the learning curve and reduces costly mistakes.
A firm that has built for regulated industries such as healthcare or finance will understand compliance requirements that a generalist may overlook.
Ask to see two or three completed projects similar in scope and function, then contact those clients directly. Reviewing a portfolio of past work and verifying it against real references is the single most reliable signal that a website development company in Virginia can deliver on the specific project.
What is the process for transferring code and site ownership once the project ends?
Ownership transfers when the developer hands over the full codebase, hosting credentials, domain control, and any third-party account access, usually on final payment.
A clean handoff includes the complete source code in a repository, admin logins for the CMS, DNS and domain registrar access, and documentation covering how the site is built and deployed. This step is often skipped or rushed, and the result is a business that cannot move its own site or hire a new developer without starting over.
Written confirmation of the transfer, with everything listed and delivered, protects the business from being locked into one vendor. The contract should require this handoff as a condition of the final payment.
