Portuguese (Re)Constitution reclaims the “blue pencil” once used by Portugal’s dictatorship to censor artists, writers, and everyday citizens. In this 2022 project, Diego Tórgo and the team transformed the original fascist constitution into a new book that functions as both historical record and artistic response, using blackout poetry and expressive blue-ink illustrations.

Based in New York, Diego Tórgo is a Brazilian-Portuguese Creative Director known for bold, human storytelling across global markets. Now SVP Creative Director at Area 23, he leads The Refinery, guiding high-craft, idea-driven work celebrated with more than 20 Cannes Lions — including a Grand Prix. Formerly at FCB Lisbon, he helped secure Portugal’s first Cannes Lions Grand Prix with this very project.
