1. Gordon Desserts’ Rebrand to Mochidoki Led to an Award-Winning Verbal Identity
Source: [Catchword]
Challenge: Gordon Desserts, a premium food company, introduced a new line of premium mochi desserts. It needed help in rebranding its name to something that captures the playful and indulgent nature of the product, while also hinting at its Asian heritage.
Solution: Catchword developed the name “Mochidoki,” a combination of “mochi” and “okay-dokey.” The naming agency ensured that the name has brand recall and gives off positive association to the product, as well as to speak much about its Asian heritage.
Results: The dessert company’s rebranding to Mochidoki resulted in business growth, with its product line being served at high-end restaurants, such as Nobu, Tao, and Wynn Resorts. It has also opened its first retail location, demonstrating the strength of the brand and the impact of the naming strategy, which also won a Sliver Award for Verbal Identity at London Internation Awards.
2. Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter Redefined Audience Media Scoring
Source: [Catchword]
Challenge: Rotten Tomatoes, a popular film and television review site, needed a partner to create a more engaging name for its Audience Score. It needed fresh perspectives in ideating a handle that would reflect the overall enthusiasm of everyday viewers and connect with its professional critic scale, “Tomatometer.”
Solution: A few hundred word pairings later, Catchword proposed the name “Popcornmeter,” directly connecting to the audience experience of watching movies and its tag-along snack, popcorn. The name also aligns seamlessly and intuitively with the existing Tomatometer, which made marketing unnecessary.
Results: The “Popcornmeter” branding successfully launched in August 2024, receiving positive media coverage. It has also inspired the introduction of a new verified ratings system, spanning from Hot to Stale, which further enhanced the user experience of Rotten Tomatoes.
3.TikTok’s ‘In the Mix’ Set the Trend as a Well-Recognized Cultural Experience
Source: [Catchword]
Challenge: TikTok aimed to create a first-of-its-kind music event through its platform’s Live feature. It needed a name that would be memorable, easy to understand, and align with TikTok’s DNA of creativity and innovation.
Solution: Having produced previous TikTok handles before, Catchword is already familiar with what works with the channel’s varied audience. After 2,000 generated event titles, the naming agency proposed “In the Mix,” conveying the idea of a live, dynamic music experience, where different artists and genres come together. It also ensured that the name resonates with the concept of being part of a community while positioning TikTok as a top discovery platform for emerging music.
Results: The first “TikTok In the Mix” event was announced in October 2023, featuring a star-studded lineup and global live streaming. The event received significant media attention and positive feedback from fans, successfully launching a new chapter for TikTok’s real-world music experiences.
4. The North Face’s ‘Circaloft’ Branded as Sustainable Puffer Jacket of the Year
Source: [Catchword]
Challenge: The North Face developed a new line of sustainable, high-performance insulated apparel. It wanted a naming agency partner that could name the clothing line while properly communicating the product’s unique properties, sustainability, and innovation.
Solution: Catchword proposed the name “Circaloft.” It combines “circa,” referencing the circular economy and the product’s lifecycle, with “loft,” suggesting lightweight insulation, garments that float back into shape after compression, and aspiration toward a more sustainable future.
Results: The North Face received positive reviews from consumers and the media, with Travel and Leisure naming Circaloft as the Best Sustainable Puffer Jacket of the year. The name effectively conveyed the product’s unique qualities and aligned with The North Face's commitment to sustainability.

Why ask this? Successful case studies demonstrate the agency’s capabilities and the quality of their work. Look for examples relevant to your industry or target audience.
Brand strategy and positioning
How do you handle naming projects with multiple target audiences or geographic regions?
Why ask this? If your brand operates across diverse markets, it’s important to consider that the naming agency has the linguistic expertise to ideate a name that is catchy, understandable, and has strong brand recall across your differing target markets.

Allyson Burroughs
Vice President, Brand, Digital, and Communications at Ricoh North America
5.0★
Integrated Marketing Review from Allyson Burroughs
I had the pleasure of working with Modo Modo Agency in 2022, when I was responsible for the complete renovation of Ricoh North America's brand narrative and visual design system, across all channels and all audiences. There were three immediately necessary elements - 1) internal communications materials about the overhaul of the brand narrative in order to build trust and enthusiasm internally for the new strategic direction of the company, 2) recruitment marketing assets to attract new talent to the organization very rapidly, and 3) go-to-market assets for multiple vertical industries where Ricoh was strategically focused on specific levels of growth.
Modo Modo Agency helped me lead the charge by generating extremely valuable internal communications materials, visual design system assets, manager and leadership guides and more to help with evangelizing internally the evolved brand narrative and the new strategic plan set forth by the CEO. They also created a significant number recruitment marketing assets for a number of digital channels to help build excitement around the brand, attract talent, and encourage employment applications for the significant number of open positions the company needed to fill. Lastly, we worked closely on GTM initiatives across paid and owned channels for the specific vertical industries Ricoh had identified in their strategic growth plan.
The team is strategic, focused on meeting business objectives, and delivering on the critical KPIs of each program. Modo Modo Agency stepped in quickly, delivered smart, well-executed, and effective assets for all the audiences and channels we needed to address. I would enthusiastically recommend them and would most definitely hire them again.

This is our first year at Peach Bowl, Inc. working with Modo Modo. In fact, we're literally months into our business relationship.
I'll be able to provide a more thorough review later, but we have found Modo Modo to be an intensely engaged agency. They have very talented people in the design chairs and the account management team. They've been extremely responsive in terms of learning how we like to work, and reacting accordingly.
We made the decision to leave one agency and sign on with Modo Modo, and the best thing I can say at this point is that we are not disappointed in our decision. We've seen and are expecting top-shelf work from them.

Our non-profit worked with True Fit Marketing worked with True Fit Marketing to update and rebrand one of our event websites. Their team was attentive, creative, and really went the extra mile to present and implement ideas we hadn't even considered. We are grateful to the True Fit Marketing team, their vision, and execution; and we look forward to working with them as we continue to grow this event to other locations.

I've been working with True Fit Marketing for a few years and couldn't be happier. Recently, they suggested a fresh website update might be a good idea. We got to creating the new website and even a NEW logo color. Their team is so talented at what they do, so we just trusted them throughout the process. We couldn't be happier with the final product. Highly recommend!!!

My business is called Oasis Senior Advisors in the Pittsburgh area and I really like working with Arlea and the team at True Fit. They are very responsive with emails and are constantly looking to get more visibility with my Facebook page. They are very good with helping me with Facebook posts and are always looking for ways to post videos of me out and about in the community. We have monthly or every other month meetings to review statistics of google searches and how we've performed online as well as talk about what's coming in the future that they can help with. A very strong group and look forward to continuing to work with them.

I recently had my website and brand rebuilt by Sam and I couldn’t be happier. He was so easy to work with and unbelievably quick. Every question I had was answered with patience and clarity, and he explained everything in a way that actually made sense. The whole process felt seamless and supported. I’m thrilled with the final result and highly recommend working with him.

The people at Nonfiction are amazing! Their team not only designed our logo, but helped us create a brand and have been there to guide us on how to grow and mold our brand identity as we’ve grown. They’re always there to support us on new projects or ideas, and are a wonderfully talented group of people. I highly recommend them for all your design needs!

Neil, Jeff and the whole Nonfiction team are incredible brand strategists, and design experts. I personally have worked with them a number of times, and they are my go-to for branding and brand extension work. They rise to the challenge every single time, and it's always with creative solutions that not only solve the original goals of the project, but are pragmatic, and help marketers move their businesses forward. If you're a brand marketer looking to infuse innovation, creative thinking, and people focused ideas into your brand marketing efforts, this is THE agency to bring it to life alongside you.

Neil, Jeff, and the team at Nonfiction have been great to work with! We’ve been with them since they formed the company, and there’s nowhere else we would go for our design and branding work. They’ve been great at guiding us and keeping us grounded to our core values when we get excited by something that is likely a distraction. We love them!
