Had a terrible experience with Gheen & Co. They managed our books and taxes for a few years. From the beginning the communication was spotty, they never answer the phone and get back to emails at a snails pace. So I've used a ton of different accountants over the years to do my crypto bookkeeping. None of them did a good job. In fact, the accounting firm I used on the previous return made a mistake that costed me a ton in penalties. That firm was also charging me $300/hr for what was clearly outsourced help that barely understood crypto. I never realized how much more costly hiring the wrong accountant was. So most of these places will pick 1 crypto accounting software and stick to that. The issue is that if you use any new blockchains, it might take the software company a while to write the code to parse the new blockchain. So the nice part about working with Justin is he would build scripts to handle those cases. Other accountant places would do it manually and just rack up billable hours. Justin was very thorough and diligent. My dataset is pretty complex and he navigated it very well.

Honestly, they are the gold standard when it comes to crypto taxes and preparation. I used this firm several years ago when I was a sole trader and found them very helpful, but sadly the quality has gone downhill. I signed up again when I started a new company, and it’s been very frustrating. Constant mistakes that I’ve had to spot and correct myself, nearly impossible to get hold of anyone consistently. Every time you speak to someone different, and they never seem to have any background on your situation, so you’re left repeating yourself. Be very careful before signing up. You get locked into a 24-month contract, and there’s a fee leave early. Definitely not the same service it once was, I wouldn’t recommend them anymore.

Steve chased me to move my books over from my previous accountant, then delivered the opposite of what he promised. He told me he'd lodge my BAS as nil and fix it later, then deliberately didn't lodge it until I asked him about it and it was too late and I got fined — in his own words, "If I lodge a nil you'll lag around like you have been… Now you'll actually get me your info." When I asked why, he flipped out and got hostile, and made it my fault for even asking. He also let my 2024–2025 tax return sit until it was nearly a year overdue, then two weeks before the deadline fobbed me off to H&R Block — after being the one who talked me into switching to him in the first place. Unprofessional and takes it out on you the moment you question him. Avoid.
