Hot Butter Productions made our pre-wedding shoot an absolute dream come true! From the very beginning, Dave and Greg were incredibly warm, professional, and easy to work with.
The final films completely exceeded our expectations. Every emotion—the romance, the fun, the intimacy—was beautifully captured. Watching the videos felt like reliving our own fairy tale. I truly felt like the heroine of my Bollywood love story, and that says everything about how perfectly they understood our vision.
Their creativity, attention to detail, and genuine passion for storytelling really shine through their work. We are beyond thrilled with the final outcome and will cherish these films forever.
Highly, highly recommend Hot Butter Productions to anyone looking to capture their love story in the most magical way possible!❤️

Working with Hot Butter is a joy. From preproduction to shoot day to receiving the final material, everything ran smoothly which means we could focus our energy on getting great talent performances and great shots. The team cares about the process as much as they do about the outcome. Dave is a master wrangler and Zak was a complete pro with the camera. Highly recommended.

Hi - I worked with Ideal Insights for a sustainability video we needed for an accreditation. From the very start we felt we were in safe hands. Nick Twigg made the entire process so user-friendly, it was a pleasure to work with people who "just get it" ! The storyboarding, creative inputs and suggestions on direction were first-class. They did everything, from auditioning actors, to writing the script and on-the-day filming. All of this was done with minimal disruption to our business. A fair and realistic fee that gave us the quality and the outcome we desired. I would definitely use again, and highly recommend their services.

We'd never worked with the guys at Ideal Insight before so, while their portfolio was very impressive, we weren't really sure what to expect. Not only are the people really great to work with, but their team are helpful, professional and eager to make suggestions to either improve our vision or enhance it. We filmed for a day and ended up with better content than we could've hoped for, and we're looking forward to working with them on more content in the future!

Nick Twig and his team had a two-week brief to put together a compelling, visually-pleasing 4-minute corporate video for a last-minute conference we were attending. We interviewed three other video production companies for the job, but Ideal Insight was way ahead of the rest, with regards innovative and workable creative concepts that fulfilled the brief perfectly. In a nutshell, they just got us and our business straight away. We knew a two-week deadline was a big ask - but Ideal Insight worked night and day to meet the deadline - and even coped with some changes we wanted to make at the last minute.
I’ve dealt with a number of video production companies before, but none have come anywhere close to offering such an astounding service, fast turnaround and true understanding of your business as Ideal Insight. I couldn’t recommend more highly.

5 Frequently Asked Questions About Documentary Production Companies
What does a documentary production company do?
Documentary video production companies provide filming and editing services for streaming platforms, NGOs, and broadcasters. They specialize in capturing authentic human and nature experiences that are thought-provoking and inspire action. The core idea behind this cinematic format is to understand the people behind the story, their philosophy and drive, and bring the topic closer to the audience.
The main services of documentary production companies can be segmented into three tiers:
Pre-production services: Conceptualization, research, scheduling, location scouting, and budgeting
Production services: Filming, directing, interviews with subjects, audio recording, and cinematography
Post-production services: Editing, archival footage insertion, adding subtitles, voiceover, sound design, and color grading
Some agencies also produce historical, social impact, educational, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) documentaries, and assist with festival submissions and distribution.
What kind of documentaries do these companies make?
Social impact and advocacy: Aimed at prompting public debate or activism for social justice and environmental issues
Investigative and crime: In-depth research into true stories, profiled crimes, historical events, or unsolved mysteries
Biographical and historical: Detailed explorations of influential individuals or historical events
Nature and science: Wildlife films and environmental documentaries
Branded documentaries: Create documentaries about a brand’s mission, impact, milestones, or corporate journey
Observational: Capturing real-life events as they unfold with minimal intervention from the filmmakers
Docuseries: Serialized stories that cover lifestyle, sports, food, or travel topics
How much do documentary video production companies charge for their services?
Documentary movies can cost between $10,000 and $1 million per production. The final price is determined based on the type of documentary, location, production quality, the size of the crew, the equipment needed, and the post-production process. In general, documentaries fall within the following brackets:
Low-budget documentaries: $10,000 to $50,000
Mid-range documentaries: $50,000 to $200,000
High-end documentaries: $200,000 to $1 million or more
On the lower end, many documentaries done by emerging filmmakers have budgets that are even lower than the industry threshold. These crews raise only enough to cover basic hard costs, relying on volunteer labor and in-kind contributions of goods and services.
On the higher end, documentary budgets can go far above $3 million and are usually allocated to high-profile projects supported by studios, broadcasting networks, and global streaming platforms.
In addition to production costs, what else needs to be accounted for in the final budget?
Besides filming costs, the final budget should also consider the following expenses:
Location permits and insurance
Crew salaries
Rental expenses for lighting, shooting, and sound equipment
Travel and accommodation for the crew
Do I own the final footage?
Typically, the contract determines ownership, but it is standard for the production company to own the raw files until final payment, after which the client receives the finished, edited content.
