WordPress Website Design Review from Meryl Meranski, M.P.H.

We've been working with Steck Insights for about three years and have appreciated their high quality and strong consistency of work. They were originally brought on board to help us with hosting and maintaining a couple of websites, but as our company has become more robust, Steck Insights has been a part of that journey. They now host and maintain all six of our active websites, having revamped two of them, and built the other four from scratch. They listen to our business ideas and concepts, and help bring them to reality online. Their team is very responsive and always willing to provide assistance from a quick content edit to a detailed design change. Steck Insights has also been an imperative and cooperative partner with a marketing company that we use for our social and programmatic advertising. Finally, Steck Insights has always provided us with options that fit our budget, and have been flexible when we needed to adjust. I'm confident that Steck Insights has our best interest in mind and I would recommend them anyone or any company looking for website and marketing services.

Vermilion is the type of creative agency that production companies dream of working with, but can never quite seem to find. We finally feel like we’ve found long term agency partners in Vermilion. They craft brag-worthy creative (without the egos), are fair, genuinely care for the vendors they bring on to their projects and embody the role that agencies should bring to clients and the campaigns they build. It’s a rare gift as fellow creatives to get to step out onto a foundation that has already been carefully laid before us and get to enrich concepts together to make a real impact for the clients we serve.

    • Robin Arnett
      Robin Arnett Review from Google
      2.0

Robin Arnett's Review Sourced from Google

I'm writing this review because I wish that I had been able to see something similar when I decided to work with Denver Website Designs several years ago. Working with Denver Website Designs felt like being held hostage. I was happy with the initial site design, but working with them throughout the years was extremely difficult. I put up with it for years, thinking I was making too big of a deal, but finally realized how bad it was when someone signed on to help me with a marketing project and helped me to see what was actually going on.First of all, it's essential to note that the price to host your site with DWD is literally about 7 times what you'd pay through a platform like Squarespace. For the price, I believe customers should be able to expect white glove service, which is not what I received. One issue that I dealt with frequently was having to interact with the quirky and unintuitive back end when conducting marketing campaigns. Not only is their system confusing and clunky, I would frequently run into issues like having a big percentage of my emails suddenly start going to spam. When things like that happened, I was most often gaslit and told that nothing had changed or should be different, even though it obviously was.The staff was frequently difficult to communicate with, and delivered sloppy results. Every time I asked for an update, I had to go through the site with a fine toothed comb to pick up the inevitable mistakes that were missed through poor attention to detail. I could never simply trust that something had been done correctly the first time, and received a negative attitude when I followed up to get it right.I was also given significant pushback on a number of occasions when I asked for functionality to be added to my site that is standard for most professional websites. I was often told that a fix might not be possible, and had to push to have someone more skilled take a look. Often, after my advocacy, what I was looking for was possible, but sometimes it was not. For example, the final straw for me was that I asked for some kind of confirmation message to pop up on my contact page when someone completed the form. This is very standard on most contact pages, and I often had people submit the form multiple times before because they were confused. I was given the option to have the user directed to a completely different page that confirmed their submission, for which they would charge me $200 on top my already very high hosting fees. What I actually wanted wasn't even an option. This was also a major issue with the shopping cart on my page, and I had to push quite hard to get that page to even be presentable. Not only was I overpaying for hosting at an astronomical level, I was also forced to deal with poor functionality, glitchy code, and unprofessional attitudes. Eventually, I was so tired of it that I forked over a big chunk of money to transfer my site to Squarespace, and it has been a tremendous relief. Please do yourself a favor and work with someone else, because it will end up costing you later.I want to also point out the intimidating ways in which they are interacting with other negative reviews. I was hesitant to even post this, but I think I owe it to other small business owners to help them avoid my mistake. I hope that this helps.

Colorado Website Development Company Hiring Guide

Why should I hire a website development company near me?

You should hire a website development company near you because it’s easier to meet and talk in person, resulting in a smoother project collaboration. Being in the same time zone also means faster replies and support. Plus, if your business serves local customers, a nearby company might understand what people in your area like and expect from websites. This local insight can create a site that connects better with your audience and works well for your community.

  • Local audience expertise
A website development company near you will better understand your intended audience’s habits and preferences. With this knowledge, it can build landing pages and user flows that more accurately target users and drive engagement and conversions.
  • Faster understanding of business needs
A domestic web development agency is more likely to be familiar with your business's specific environment, whether it’s industry regulations, regional customer behavior, or local market trends. If they’ve worked with similar businesses in your area, they can more quickly grasp your goals and challenges. This leads to a smoother onboarding process and a website that better supports your business goals.
  • Stronger markers of trust
When hiring offshore and nearshore web development companies, you're most likely limited to verifying their credibility through online research. However, when the web development agency is local to your area, you’ll hear about its reputation through word of mouth. You can also ask businesses nearby about their experiences with the agency to gain more insight.
  • More efficient collaboration
With web development agencies close by, you don’t have to adjust to time zone differences and cultural and language barriers. Thus, you experience fewer misunderstandings, faster response times, and quicker project turnarounds.
  • Better integration with local marketing and vendors
A local web development company can easily coordinate with your existing marketing team, ad agency, or branding partners in the area. This close collaboration ensures your website aligns with your campaigns, brand identity, and regional messaging. What should I look for in a Colorado website development agency?

When searching for a Colorado website development agency, consider the following traits to verify its credibility and reliability:

  • Positive client reviews
Aside from five-star ratings, see if the agency has client reviews that detail its responsiveness, transparency, flexibility to feedback, and timeliness in delivering outputs. These characteristics showcase the Colorado web development agency’s dedication to client support.
  • Long-term client relationships
When reviewing client reviews and testimonials, identify how long the clients have worked with the agency. Long-standing relationships often indicate dependable support and sustainable web development, which are important for online growth.
  • Proven expertise
Examine the agency’s list of recognitions and case studies to see how the Colorado web development company customized its approach to solve specific business challenges and deliver tangible results.
  • Updated technical knowledge
Review the agency's tech stack to verify it uses the latest tools and software, like Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Microsoft Azure. Also, ensure that the agency has a holistic knowledge of systems (e.g., CMS, eCommerce, and CRM), enabling it to seamlessly integrate with your IT ecosystem.
  • User-centric strategies
Colorado web development agencies that conduct comprehensive user research and competitor analysis ensure that your website attracts your desired audiences and persuades them to become loyal customers.

What should I avoid when hiring a Colorado website development agency?

When hiring a Colorado website development agency, avoid the following red flags to prevent costly and long-term damage to your business:

  • Limited services
Some Colorado web development agencies may specialize in either design or development without offering comprehensive services like UX/UI design or systems integration. This can lead to gaps in the final product, such as a beautifully designed site that lacks usability or a technically functional site that doesn’t engage users. For the best result, look for an agency that provides a full-cycle approach, from user research and design to development, testing, and post-launch support.
  • Overly cheap prices
When an agency offers rates below industry standard, it might outsource its services to freelancers. As such, it may provide inconsistent service quality, slow implementation of changes, and subpar results.
  • Dependence on plugins and templates
An overreliance on templates and plugins suggests a lack of customization, leading to inconsistent designs, broken functions, and difficulty scaling. Moreover, heavy reliance on plugins can result in high overhead costs.
  • Unimpressive website
If a web development agency’s website loads slowly, has broken features, isn't mobile-friendly, or fails accessibility checks, these may signal poor development practices. A well-built site should be fast, responsive, and technically sound. While design is important, these backend and frontend issues reflect directly on the agency’s coding quality, performance optimization, and attention to detail.
  • Ambiguous list of deliverables
A Colorado web development agency that can’t provide you with a detailed list of services and responsibilities and its project proposal may hint at a lack of transparency and result in hidden costs that overrun your budget.
  • Short-term thinking
Agencies that don’t consider your business’s current tech stack (e.g., CRM, ERP, CMS), industry requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR), and security policies (e.g., secure authentication, data encryption) when developing your website may lead to inefficiencies, penalties, and long-term damage to your business’s online reputation.
