Evert_45 is a project that uses storytelling and modern social media to connect today’s youth with the experience of youth during World War II. The story is incredibly powerful but also contains some moments of levity that you can’t help but smile at.

As the timeline progresses on the right hand side of the page, the story of Evert is told through the use of YouTube vlogs and Instagram updates. These social media posts are immediately recognizable to anyone who is regularly active on them. Evert uses emojis and hashtags just like many people who are watching the story. These kinds of small details help connect the viewer to Evert and show that he is just like any kid today.

Each chapter is clearly marked with a bold, white title. The progressing map on the right-hand side of the screen also shows a minimalist icon to mark the beginning of a new chapter in the story. Evert continues to update viewers with Instagram posts and YouTube vlogs as he travels through German occupied countryside.

The story is truly powerful and shows how children in war zones have many of the same experiences as children who are lucky enough to grow up in a safe atmosphere. The use of Instragram and YouTube is a clever way of telling the story for a modern audience.

Those logos are also easily recognizable as most viewers probably have those apps on their own devices. The map on the right is a nice, unique way of showing the progression of the story. Overall, this site is a very well designed storytelling website that uses some clever ways to share the story of Evert in a way that today’s connected youth can relate to.
